Semaglutide Units to mg Calculator
Convert semaglutide units to mg, or mg to units, for a compounded vial. Enter the concentration printed on the pharmacy label and this semaglutide dose calculator writes out the mL, the units and each step, with the mark drawn on the syringe. There is no default concentration: compounded vials differ, so the result waits until you enter yours.
Follow your prescription and pharmacy label. Ask the prescriber or pharmacist if anything is unclear.
Required: check your vial label for “mg/mL”. No default is assumed.
Enter the concentration (mg/mL) printed on your pharmacy label above. Compounded vials differ, so there is no default.
How the semaglutide units to mg conversion works
mL = mg ÷ (mg/mL) and units = mL × 100; the other way, mL = units ÷ 100 and mg = mL × (mg/mL). Two examples at 2.5 mg/mL:
2.5 mg/mL: 0.25 mg in units
- Concentration:
2.5 mg/mL (from the pharmacy label) - Volume:
0.25 ÷ 2.5 = 0.1 mL - Units on a U-100 syringe:
0.1 × 100 = 10 units
Result: 0.25 mg = 0.1 mL = 10 units
2.5 mg/mL: 40 units in mg
- Concentration:
2.5 mg/mL (from the pharmacy label) - Volume:
40 ÷ 100 = 0.4 mL - Dose:
0.4 × 2.5 = 1 mg
Result: 1 mg = 0.4 mL = 40 units

The concentrations here are round example numbers for the arithmetic, not the strength of any product. Use the calculator with the number on your own label.
Units vs mg
A mg (milligram) is the amount of semaglutide. A unit is a mark on a U-100 insulin syringe, and on a U-100 syringe 100 units fill 1 mL, so 1 unit is 0.01 mL. Units measure volume, not drug. How much semaglutide is in those units depends on how concentrated the liquid is.
Why the vial concentration matters
The same dose can be very different volumes. 0.25 mg is 10 units only at 2.5 mg/mL. At 1 mg/mL it is 25 units, and at 5 mg/mL it is 5 units. That is why this calculator asks for the vial first and never assumes a concentration.
Brand vs compounded vials
Brand semaglutide (Wegovy and Ozempic) comes in pens that are set in mg, so there is no units step and nothing to convert. Compounded semaglutide comes in vials prepared by a pharmacy at a concentration of its choosing. Read the mg/mL on the pharmacy label and enter it above.
Semaglutide dose escalation in the FDA labels
Per the Wegovy label, adults who have tolerated 2.4 mg for at least 4 weeks may go up to a maximum of 7.2 mg once weekly when clinically needed. For type 2 diabetes, the Ozempic label starts at 0.25 mg for 4 weeks, then 0.5 mg after at least 4 weeks on 0.25 mg, then 1 mg if needed, after at least 4 weeks on 0.5 mg, then 2 mg if needed, after at least 4 weeks on 1 mg.
Tirzepatide instead?
The tirzepatide units to mg calculator covers brand tirzepatide vials and compounded vials. It does not convert between the two drugs.
Frequently asked questions
- How many units is 0.25 mg of semaglutide?
- It depends on the concentration. At 2.5 mg/mL, 0.25 mg is 0.1 mL, which is 10 units. At 5 mg/mL it is 5 units, and at 1 mg/mL it is 25 units. The formula is mL = mg ÷ (mg/mL), then units = mL × 100.
- How many mg is 40 units of semaglutide?
- 40 units is 0.4 mL on a U-100 syringe. At 2.5 mg/mL that is 1 mg; at 5 mg/mL it is 2 mg; at 1 mg/mL it is 0.4 mg. Multiply 0.4 by the mg/mL on your label.
- Why is there no brand option for semaglutide?
- Brand semaglutide injections (Wegovy and Ozempic) come in pens that are set in mg, not in vials drawn with a syringe, so there are no units to convert. Only compounded semaglutide vials need a units conversion.
- Can I convert a semaglutide dose to a tirzepatide dose?
- No. They are different drugs and there is no dose conversion between them. This calculator only converts units, mL and mg of semaglutide.
